According to him, it is necessary to ensure that Nigeria records the growth of its economy.

Sanusi said this on Saturday at a colloquium dedicated to his 60th birthday.

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the former emir of Kano said that he paid for speaking out on socio-economic and security issues.

Sanusi also said that if nothing changes in the near future, Nigeria will reach a point where the average income of a citizen will be the same as in 1980.

He said, " The reason I haven't spoken much for two years is because I don't even have to say anything anymore. Everything that we warned about has come."

“According to the World Bank, where did we stop in 2019? At this rate, in the next two years, in terms of purchasing power parity, the average income of a Nigerian would return to what it was in 1980 under Shehu Shagari. This means that we have made zero progress in 40 years; 40 years have been wasted."

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi added that, based on the purchasing power index of the average income of Nigerians, “we have destroyed all the progress made in 35 years.
